A standard porta potty needs a gate or path at least 48 inches wide, since the unit is about 44 inches wide and the crew needs hand room. It also needs a level 4-by-4-foot spot within about 50 feet of where the service truck parks.

Standard porta potties on rentals longer than 7 days are serviced once a week. Each service pumps the tank, scrubs the seat, urinal and walls, adds fresh deodorizer, and restocks paper and sanitizer. Crews of more than 10 per unit in summer heat should add a second weekly service.
