Porta Potty Delivery and Placement Guide
Space, gate widths, slopes, truck access, permits and the full rental timeline, so delivery day goes right the first time.

How much space does a porta potty need?
A standard porta potty needs a level spot about 4 feet by 4 feet, a path at least 48 inches wide to reach it, and a parking spot for the service truck within about 50 feet. A wheelchair-accessible unit needs about 8 by 8 feet; a restroom trailer needs a firm 8 by 16 foot pad.
| Unit | Level spot | Path or gate width | Other needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard / deluxe | 4 × 4 ft | 48 in | Truck within 50 ft |
| VIP cabin | 5 × 5 ft | 52 in | Truck within 50 ft |
| Wheelchair-accessible | 8 × 8 ft | Driveway width | Firm, level route for users |
| Handwashing station | 3 × 3 ft | 36 in | Truck within 50 ft |
| Restroom trailer | 8 × 16 ft pad and up | Driveway or road | 20-amp outlet, water, truck turnaround |
What happens from booking to pickup?
A porta potty rental runs in six steps: quote, booking, a driver call about 30 minutes before arrival, placement with a photo, weekly service on rentals over 7 days, and pickup within 1 to 2 business days after you call. Event units leave the next business day automatically.
- Quote: ZIP, dates, unit type, quantity and crew or guest count.
- Booking: card on file; placement notes, gate code, site contact.
- Delivery: driver calls 30 minutes out, sets the unit level, sends a photo.
- Service: fixed weekly day on 28-day rentals; extra visits by request.
- Changes: extend, add units or move a unit with one call or text.
- Pickup: call or text when finished; billing stops at the end of the current cycle.
What should I tell the driver before delivery?
Tell the driver the exact placement spot, any gate code, low wires or branches under 11 feet, soft ground, dogs on site, and a phone number for someone on site. Photos of the spot help most. The driver will not set a unit on a slope, over a drain or blocking a sidewalk.
Can a porta potty go on grass, gravel or a slope?
A porta potty can go on firm grass, gravel, dirt or pavement as long as the spot is level side to side. Slopes are the problem: a tilted unit rocks, spills and can tip. On sloped lots, we use the flattest point, often the driveway apron or street-side pad on your property.
How do wind and heat change placement in the Inland Empire?
Santa Ana and Cajon Pass winds can tip a lone unit on open ground, so exposed units are staked or strapped and set beside walls. In summer heat, shade slows odor; a unit in full sun at 100°F needs more frequent service. Our guides on wind and heat cover both.
Do I need a permit to place a porta potty?
A porta potty fully on private property needs no permit in the cities we serve. A unit in a street, sidewalk, parkway or alley needs an encroachment permit from that city's public works or engineering office, and events on public land need a special event permit. HOAs may add their own rules.
Details by city are in our Southern California permit guide.

The service truck needs to park within about 50 feet of the unit, on a surface that can hold a loaded truck.
Can you place a porta potty in my backyard?
If the gate is at least 48 inches wide and the path is firm and fairly flat, yes, the unit can go in the backyard.
Do I need to be home for pickup?
You do not. Leave the gate unlocked or give us the code, and make sure the unit is reachable.
What if the unit needs to move later?
Call or text and we move it on the same site. Relocation is quoted per move.
