Standard vs Deluxe vs Restroom Trailer: Which Should You Rent?
Five unit types, one decision. This guide compares them by features, space, hookups and the jobs they suit, including when each one is the wrong choice.

What is the difference between standard, deluxe and a restroom trailer?
A standard porta potty is a seat, urinal and sanitizer over a tank. A deluxe unit adds a foot-pump flush and a sink. A VIP cabin is a private room with a ceramic-style flush toilet and faucet sink. A restroom trailer has multiple rooms with porcelain toilets, vanities and lights, and needs power and water.
| Standard | Deluxe flushing | VIP cabin | Wheelchair-accessible | Restroom trailer | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flush | No | Foot pump | Tank flush | No | Full flush |
| Sink | Sanitizer only | Foot-pump sink | Faucet sink | Sanitizer only | Vanity sinks |
| Hookups | None | None | None | None | 20-amp power + water |
| Space | 4 × 4 ft | 4 × 4 ft | 5 × 5 ft | 8 × 8 ft | 8 × 16 ft pad+ |
| Wrong for | Dressy events | Very large crowds alone | Large crowds alone | Tight backyards | Slopes, no power, narrow gates |
Which unit is best for a backyard party?
For a backyard party under 75 guests, one deluxe flushing unit or VIP cabin is usually best, because guests get a sink and flush without hookups. Add a standard unit for larger crowds. A restroom trailer only makes sense if the driveway can hold it and power is close.
Which unit is best for a construction site?
Standard units are best for construction sites: they are durable, easy to service and meet Cal/OSHA's count with a handwashing station nearby. Add a wheelchair-accessible unit when a worker needs one, and plan 1 unit per 20 workers.

Which unit is best for a wedding?
For a wedding over 75 guests with power nearby, a restroom trailer is best. Without power, use VIP cabins or deluxe units. Always add one wheelchair-accessible unit if any guest needs it, and a handwashing station if the units have no sink.
